A Message from Your Treasurer, Broadus Mattison
August 20, 2025
Hello, my friends.
On October 9th, I will be stepping down as Treasurer of UBCP/ACTRA.
This decision comes as I take on a new chapter in my full-time job outside the union—one with new responsibilities and opportunities that will require my full attention. I leave my role as Treasurer with deep pride in what we’ve built together, and with even greater faith in what lies ahead.
Serving this union has been one of the greatest honors of my life. It was never just a position—it was a calling to serve our members, safeguard our resources, and uphold the principles we share.
We faced real challenges, and we met them head-on.
We made the tough calls to keep our finances strong and our mission clear. We fought together for fair wages, safe workplaces, and dignity for the work we do.
I am proud that we were able to reduce costs in areas such as mail, storage, and other operational expenses, while at the same time expanding our member education program.
We achieved historic improvements in our BCMPA collective bargaining agreement, including a 11-hour turnaround time provision— a long overdue improvement in our working conditions.
And the recent increase in the production Tax Credit will help create more work opportunities for you, while the introduction of our new Vertical Series Production Agreement will expand those opportunities even further.
Finally, we are actively engaging all levels of government to protect performers’ name, image, and likeness rights in the face of advancing AI technology.
These are your achievements and not those of any one individual or group of individuals. The strength of this union lives in each of you—in your participation, your voice, and your belief in one another.
The election committee has been convened and there will be more information on the election from the union in the next few days.
So keep at it. Stay steady. Stand together.
I thank you for your trust in me, and for the opportunity to serve. Onward.
B. Mattison
