UBCP/ACTRA congratulates the nearly 10,000 CUPE flight attendants at Air Canada on reaching a tentative mediated agreement. This outcome reflects the determination and solidarity of flight attendants who stood together to defend their rights and secure a stronger future for themselves and their families.

While we celebrate this tentative agreement, we cannot overlook the federal government’s unprecedented attempt to strip CUPE members of their constitutional right to strike by invoking Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. This type of intervention undermines the collective bargaining process and sets a worrisome precedent for all workers.

The courage of CUPE flight attendants has not only advanced their cause, but has strengthened the entire labour movement. Their victory was supported by the solidarity of unions across Canada, who stood shoulder to shoulder and made clear that an attack on one union is an attack on all. Together, we are reminded Canadians that the strength of the labour movement lies in its unity.

UBCP/ACTRA stands proudly with CUPE and joins the Canadian Labour Congress in calling for urgent reform of Section 107 to ensure that no government can deny workers of their fundamental right to strike.
