Concussion & Stunts
THIS IS REAL… TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY…
- Generally, stunt performers have had too many concussions and cumulative sub-concussive impacts from a combination of sports, MVAs, and stuntwork and they are having detremental affects on the lives of some stunt community members. Unfortunately, things will likely get worse as our stunt community ages.
- We need to draw the line at head injuries and not work through them like we sometimes do with other minor injuries.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Be informed about the Concussion Protocols for the Film Industry and follow them.
- Know what to do if someone gets hurt or hits their head.
- Be able to recongnize concussion ‘red flags’ and know when someone should get assessed. Their life could depend on you saying something.
- Do not let peers perform again, even if they say “I’m fine”, when you know they have hit their head. Tell the Stunt Coordinator immediately and call for First Aid for assessment.
- Do not let anyone drive after sustaining a suspected concussion.
- Reduce the amount of ‘head sells’ during fight rehearsals and previs to an absolute minimum – save the reactions for the on camera days.
Brain injuries can be forever and it will take all of us to help prevent and minimize the damage these invisible injuries can cause… Please do your part to help.
