UBCP/ACTRA announces the appointment of a new Executive Administrative Director
UBCP/ACTRA is pleased to announce that Karla Laird has been appointed to the newly created position of Executive Administrative Director.
For the past eighteen months, Karla has been the Director of Member Services and Communications at UBCP/ACTRA. Prior to joining UBCP/ACTRA, she held positions including Senior Manager, Media & Communications at the Better Business Bureau Serving Mainland BC, and worked as an Attorney-at-Law in Jamaica.
“After an exhaustive search with a third-party recruitment company who vetted more than 40 qualified applicants, we are thrilled that this new position will be filled by Karla who is already intimately acquainted with the operations of our organization,” said Ellie Harvie, President of UBCP/ACTRA. “We knew that with both a law degree and a Masters in Intercultural & International Communications, she was over-qualified in her previous position, so we were very pleased when she rose far above all the other qualified applicants. We are excited to see her implement plans to make the office and the organization run at its highest potential.”
The Executive Administrator Director will oversee all day-to-day operations of the union. This strategic leadership role will superintend executive board governance and management initiatives.
Karla assumed the duties of her new position on December 12, 2022.
The Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP/ACTRA) is an autonomous branch of ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists), the national organization of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. UBCP/ACTRA’s over 8,000 members are an integral part of the approximately 28,000 performers who have come together to build ACTRA, the strongest Union of cultural workers in Canada.
